"Do not yield to discouragement in the face of difficulties and do not abandon yourselves to false solutions which often seem the easiest way to overcome problems. Do not be afraid to make a commitment, to face hard work and sacrifice, to choose the paths that demand fidelity and constancy, humility and dedication. Be confident in your youth and its profound desires for happiness, truth, beauty and genuine love! Live fully this time in your life so rich and so full of enthusiasm."

365 Days of Legos!

The boys have been inspired to do a 365 days of Legos blog.  Add to that the stop action movie they are planning and things should get really interesting around here for a bit.
We got a ton of legos for Christmas and Cory is considering changing the family's last name to Lego  : ) Time will tell (and for my brother, i know, not realistic due to copyright laws, trademarks, etc...but just smile and nod your head for now please!)

Lego are awesome!  Bet you never met a lego you didn't like...well, i did.  Recently we (read Ben Ben) acquired a Star Wars fellow who, while not Darth Maul, he comes pretty dang close...not pretty.  Even in Lego i can say no sometimes.
Ninjago is the new big thing but Lego has recently added to their series and even our boys are complaining (why do people always have to go and ruin a good thing by making it 'better'???)

So we lego quite a bit here - i even found a brick in the baby's car seat the other day, yep we start 'em early here! (please note, it was accidental! No one knows how it got in there- he sure is not big enough yet to get into them...) But Cat continually brings us her newest creations while Ladybug and the boys build from scratch and from instructions some very amazing things.  There are developmental skills being acquired, engaged, and developed daily by those little bricks around our home. I just wish they had the ability to put themselves away!

Blueberry Pie

You know we picked um.  You know we baked um.  They tasted yummy!  But....

the pie was not perfect.

I got the recipe from allrecipes.com.  As i'm sure you know, people comment and make adjustments, etc.  So what do you follow?  Logically it would be the original recipe, but sometimes enough people comment about a particular part of it that you begin to wonder if a changes is not necessary.

So i made pie, based on recommended changes - the first one was good but a little runny.  Not too sweet.  I decided to add more sugar and cornstarch.... we were a bit surprised at the runniness of the second pie.  After much thought i realized that the extra sugar was pulling out more of the blueberries' juices and so for the third pie i cut back to the recipe stated amount while adjusting the corn starch.  PERFECT!

We had a perfect Blueberry Pie last night.  Today the changed factor will be the blueberries.  I froze what we did not need for this last pie and didn't eat.  Bear wants a blueberry pie for his birthday 'cake' today so my hope is the frozen will be just as wonderful as the fresh.

I will post the recipe later.

And sorry about the lack f posts - my carpal tunnel is really acting up with this pregnancy and typing is becoming a huge problem....
have  a blessed day - we will be celebrating a 6 year old's birthday!

Hello? ... Hello!

No we have not run away... we've been busy, but have thought of writing often.

I don't have pictures on the computer at the moment but will post some soon.
We spent the last 2 weekends hanging out with my sister-in-law and nephew....Jen (my sister-in-law) and i went to the County Library System's annual book sale - Sunday is $5 a box (and they are very generous sized boxes!) and $1 a bag.  Ah the joy!  Jen came away with 3 boxes but i managed more books in my 2.  I spent the entire time in the kids books and did pretty well, if i may say so myself.  We have decided we will defintitly be returning next year ....only earlier (read that - when they open) on Sunday.  Here's hoping the wait to get in is a lot shorter next time!

Blogging....

Good morning! (or afternoon?...or evening!)

I just wanted to take a few moments to let you know i am adding to our blog!  If you look above this post you will notice that we now have what should be tabs but with this particular design are just words -  Home and Family Service Projects.  Well, home is obvious - you'll end up back here of course, but the other tab will take you to a seperate, permanent page here on our blog.

My hope is to periodically update and just generally add to this and a few other (in the works) pages.  Please check them occassionally but, at the very least, once.

Also, i know my time on here is hit or miss as some days i may think of multiple things to write about but then in the end i get too tired, or forget, or just end up enjoying my family and so there can be nothing for days.  If there is ever anything you'd like to know about, anything you'd like me to write about, please feel free to ask! Either leave a comment here on the blog or email me.

Enjoy your Sunday!

Blog Names

Well, i tried to beat the question ... everyone was being so polite and not asking where the names came from or why they even exist, but someone finally asked before i got to answering the question.

So for all of you who do not know ..... (which is many of you)...

The kids have a Great-aunt (she's great of course, but Great as well).  Aunt Pat is Free Cherokee and a clan Chief.  In Cherokee society, women are leaders and decision-makers.

When we visited my Aunt and Uncle, Aunt Pat gave each of our children an Indian Name.  Those are what you see here.
Our oldest son is Running Buffalo
Our second oldest son is Strong Arrow
Our oldest daughter is Star Feather
Our youngest son is Spirit Walking Bear
Our youngest daughter is Smiling Butterfly

The picture below is from that day.  My cousin and his children were with us as well.  They received names from Aunt Pat too.

I decided to use their Indian Names as the children like them, and to help keep their privacy.

The names fit the children really well... and they are well loved.
Thank you Chief Spirit Shadow! We love you!
